Scion Staffing, an award-winning full-service staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct a search for a Supervisor of QA Sanitation for a leading food service company located in Portland, OR! This full-time, on-site opportunity is for immediate hire!
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the QA Manager, the Sanitation Supervisor provides leadership to staff for maintaining process, packaging, and plant cleanliness to ensure a safe and sanitary food manufacturing facility. This position also provides support to all production activities and shift oversight. The Sanitation Supervisor serves as a champion of employee safety and food safety while demonstrating effective communication and strong teamwork skills.
Responsibilities:
Maintain and adhere to the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS): Identify, organize, and schedule the cleaning of equipment and facility infrastructure. This includes tasks of varying frequency (weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.) and requires oversight of relevant sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOPs).
Ensure the completion of daily cleaning for production lines and areas, depending on the production schedule. This includes internal and external equipment cleaning, removal of trash and recycle, organization of supplies and materials, and general housekeeping.
Monitor and enforce adherence to all safety and food safety practices. This includes the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), equipment lock-out procedures, chemical usage, and all other general safety measures. Food safety checks include visual inspection of equipment for cleanliness, monitoring of foreign material prevention devices, and swabbing of food contact surfaces to confirm sanitation effectiveness.
Responsible for the training and direction of sanitation technician(s) to meet the department objectives described above. The training program will include worker safety programs and practices, sanitation methods and procedures, and other interdepartmental cross-training as needed. Evaluation of employee performance is required along with coaching and disciplining when warranted.
Complete administrative tasks in support of sanitation objectives. This includes creating and/or revising SSOPs, tracking, trending, and reporting of MSS compliance, and timely completion of all required paperwork and verification of documentation.
Ensure timely and effective communication of issues and needs to the appropriate channels. This may include equipment maintenance observations, ordering of sanitation supplies and chemicals, and challenges related to staffing, scheduling, budgeting, or other conflicts.
Provide support to other areas including the warehouse, wastewater, quality, and environmental. Also, maintain relationships with external service providers including chemical suppliers, janitorial companies, and waste management services. Connect with peers within the company to share knowledge and best practices.
Actively participate on facility teams, such as the food safety committee, workplace safety committee, or engagement committee. Contribute to the continuous improvement mindset and strive to promote a positive culture within the workplace.
Responsible for following all food safety policies, procedures, and regulatory criteria including the current SQF (Safe Quality Foods) code, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated preventive controls
Work regularly with other management staff to develop and maintain efficient procedures for respective areas. Participates in third-party audits, internal GMP/HACCP audits, and seek ways to minimize waste, reduce costs, and improve plant performance.
Serve as the senior person on site during the evening hours and utilize all means available to communicate to those in the building and those away as needed. Maintain flexibility in swing shift working hours, as start times may vary depending upon customer demand and production needs.
Ensure that the facility is properly shut down and secure on a nightly basis.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in food science or equivalent sanitation/production experience preferred
3-5 years of experience in food manufacturing and/or food sanitation
Trustworthiness and prior supervisory experience and/or leadership role in food manufacturing sanitation and/or quality assurance function is preferred.
Strong working knowledge of sanitation techniques/strategies, GMP/HACCP, and quality systems for a manufacturing facility
Must be able to troubleshoot, problem solve, and demonstrate high attention to detail.
Must possess an understanding of safe chemical handling and basic testing (i.e. titration)
Proven ability to work under pressure in an extremely fast paced environment and meet aggressive deadlines/make effective decisions
Willingness and ability to learn new skills and grow within the supervisor role
Compensation & Benefits:
In addition to a competitive salary of $70,000 to $80,000 annually, our client offers a full benefits package including vacation, medical and dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance and long-term disability coverage upon eligibility.
